Even with spring making its way across the landscape here, our thoughts are never far lately from the enormous troubles facing the nation of Japan.

It is in this light – and following the lead of my friend and fellow watercolor artist Keiko Tanabe - that I would like to dedicate this edition of my newsletter to the ongoing relief efforts  in Japan by offering my painting  “Huntington Gardens” for auction here.
All proceeds from the winning bidder will be donated in full directly to the Japanese Red Cross.

To make a bid, contact me via email  - tom@twschaller.com .  Please begin at U.S. $200 and bidding will close at midnight Friday, 18 March 2011.  The winner will be contacted via email shortly thereafter.

As individuals, we can often feel helpless in light of such a disaster, but by joining forces through our art , we can hope to make some small difference.

there are times when we find ourselves searching for our place in the world - for a place we can call "home". this can be a physical location; or sometimes, just a state of heart or of mind. 

and as is often the case, the real story is told not so much in where we happen to wind up - but in how we struggled to get there.
