Cropping
Consider the power of cropping.
As painters, we can sometimes choose the formatting of our images without too much thought - usually either vertical or horizontal.
While one of these is often the way to go, a square format is also an option, but one to be used carefully. A square format tends to stop the movement of the eye - on purpose.
But in doing so, it can also encourage a sense of contemplation,an intensity of focus, and a range of specific moods in your painting.

ReplyDeleteI did not know that a square painting had that effect on the viewer. Thanks for sharing that info, and thanks for sharing your contemplative seascape.
